About the University of Ghana

The University of Ghana is Ghana's premier institution of higher learning, with almost 40,000 students attending each year. Established in 1948 as a British colonial university, the University of Ghana was designed to conform to university standards coming out of London. Since becoming an independent university in 1961, the university continues to excel as a research-focused institution, prioritizing research into malaria, climate change, food production, and city development and poverty. CSU IP's program at the University of Ghana is administered by full-time local CSU staff.

This program provides students with the opportunity to develop a fuller understanding of Ghana and its people through integration into academic and cultural life. All students are required to take Society and Culture of Ghana in the fall semester, Twi language classes during both semesters, and a service-learning course in the spring semester. The service-learning course allows students to gain hands on experience working in the community. The focus of the service-learning course is determined by the student, but past service-learning experiences have involved working in local schools, law offices, museums, and research institutions. In addition, students enroll in courses within the regular departments of the university to complete their course load.
