Academic Year: July to June
Calendar Year: February to November

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Chile: Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile program is affiliated with the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (PUC), which was founded in 1888 and has four campuses in Santiago. PUC is a comprehensive university with a full range of academic offerings including art, business, chemistry, computer science, engineering, geography, physics, political science, media studies, Spanish and viticulture.

Santiago at sunset

PUC’s academic year begins in March and ends in December, however, the CSU IP Chile program follows the U.S. calendar so students will begin in the PUC second semester (beginning in July).

The program begins with an intensive two-week Preparatory Language Program (PLP), which involves grammar and conversation coursework designed to improve language skills and prepare students for the academic year. During the fall semester, all students will take a Chilean culture course covering history, literature, politics, and social issues. Students will also take a Spanish language course and other courses offered at PUC. During the spring semester, students will study advanced Spanish language, in addition to other courses taken at PUC. All instruction is in Spanish.

For additional academic information about this program, please refer to the CSU IP Academic Bulletin for the most current year by clicking the brochure. Note that course offerings are subject to change and may not be offered during the year of intended study.

LOCATION

Chile: Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile program is located in Santiago, the capital and largest city in Chile. Santiago is the cultural, political and financial center of Chile; it is home to the regional headquarters of many multinational corporations, and the Chilean executive and judicial powers are located there. Santiago has developed modern infrastructure and has South America’s most extensive subway system.

HOUSING

Upon arrival in Chile, students are provided with temporary accommodations arranged by CSU IP. During the orientation week, the on-site staff will provide students with housing information and assist them in finding permanent accommodations.
