Explore Southern California

Local Airports

Most students choose to arrive in southern California via one of two regional airports:

  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is a large international airport, but it is nearly 80 miles (125 km) from CSUSB. With traffic, that can mean 2+ hours on the road (at a cost of $200+ for a shuttle). It is possible to travel from LAX to CSUSB via public transportation (FlyAway shuttle bus to Union Station, Metrolink train to Downtown San Bernardino, and sbX Green Line bus service to CSUSB).
  • Ontario International Airport (ONT), is a smaller airport, but it is only 25 miles (40 km) from CSUSB. That drive usually takes less than 30 minutes and costs less than $50. You can also reach CSUSB from ONT by public transportation (ONT Connect shuttle to the Rancho Cucamonga Station, Metrolink train to Downtown San Bernardino, and sbX Green Line bus service to CSUSB).

Other regional airports include Palm Springs International Airport (PSP), John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, San Diego International Airport (SAN). California can also be entered directly from the Tijuana International Airport using the Cross Border Xpress (CBX) service but this route may require a travel or transit visa from Mexico. There is not easily accessible public transportation from these airports to CSUSB.

Explore the Region

The city of San Bernardino is the capital of a county by the same name. Together San Bernardino County and neighboring Riverside County make up the "Inland Empire," often referred to as "the IE." The Inland Empire, together with Los Angeles County, San Diego County, and Orange County, collectively make up the heart of "southern California." Other counties in the region include Kern, Imperial, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura. While attending CSUSB you might explore:
