How Much Does it Cost?
There is no simple answer to the question "How much does it cost to study abroad?" But, because the cost of living can be much lower in other countries than it is in Southern California, studying abroad is sometimes less expensive than attending CSUSB. At the same time, there are unique expenses (like airfare) that can quickly add up. For students who live with family while attending CSUSB, education abroad may also bring new or increased costs associated with accommodations, meals, and transportation.
The cost of your program depends on factors such as:- Location
- Length
- Program type
- Your personal spending habits
A rough estimate of "typical" study abroad program costs are approximately:
- Short-term programs | $3,000 - $8,000
- Semester-long programs | $8,000 - $21,000
- Year-long programs | $13,000 - $40,000
These estimates include all participation-related costs, including: program fees; university tuition; housing; meals; international airfare; in-country transportation; personal expenses.
To get a sense of the cost of a specific program, view the "cost" tab of the electronic "brochure" (click "search programs" and then select a program). The cost estimate for CSUIP programs is provided separately by the Chancellor's Office.
