About Uppsala University

Founded in 1477, Uppsala University is the oldest of Sweden’s six universities and is internationally famous for its leadership in research. The university enrolls over 25,000 students in a wide variety of disciplines. In addition to the general program, CSU IP also offers a specialized Media and Communication Studies program at Uppsala University.

General Program

At Uppsala University, CSU IP students focus on taking courses from the areas of humanities and the social sciences. This program is ideally suited for students who are doing interdisciplinary undergraduate majors, are double majors, or are completing a major and minor in any of the following areas: Anthropology, English, History, International Relations, Languages/Linguistics, Liberal Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science and Religious Studies.

Students are fully integrated into Uppsala’s academic programs and take courses taught in English. Typically, students focus on two or three disciplines in order to meet the CSU IP requirement of taking 15 units per semester. Students may not be able to take courses from just one discipline due to course availability and scheduling of classes and must be flexible with course selection. Students are required to take one course in Swedish language, choosing either an intensive Swedish language course in August or a regular semester course during the fall.

Media and Communication Studies Program

The Media and Communications Studies program is an advanced program and is meant for students who wish to pursue a career in Public Relations, Media, Communications, or related fields.

Students are fully integrated into Uppsala’s academic programs and take courses taught in English. Students are required to take one course in Swedish language, choosing either an intensive Swedish language course in August or a regular semester course during the fall. During the year, students take a prescribed list of advanced Media and Communication courses (offered in sequence) from the Department of Informatics and Media. Note that course offerings are subject to change and specific courses may not be offered during the year of intended study.
