CSUSB Sponsorships
Current CSUSB students can qualify for a vareity of internal "sponsorships" that decrease their program fees or are paid out directly.
Presidential International Education Award Sponsorship
For almost ten years, the Office of the President at CSUSB has awarded $500 to each CSUSB student who studies abroad, to help lower the cost of participation.
You can qualify for this sponsorship if you 1) have and maintain a 2.0+ GPA (at the time of application through the time of program start), 2) are a matriculated CSUSB student during the term of enrollment for your study abroad program; and 3) study abroad with a program sponsored and supported by the CSUSB Education Abroad Office. You will complete the Presidential International Education Award application at the same time that you apply or register with CSUSB for study abroad participation.
For CSUSB-led programs, the Presidential International Education Award is already discounted from the program fee. If you are not entitled to the award, you will pay $500 above the listed program fee. For most exchange, direct enroll, and CSUIP programs, your award will be distributed in the form of a check or direct deposit. If you have an account balance, your award may be garnished to pay that balance instead of directly distributed to you.
Instructionally Related Activities Sponsorship
CSUSB-led programs are priced using a break-even model -- the University changes a "program fee" that is just enough to cover the direct costs of running the program. The great news is that this keeps our programs affordable. The bad news is that if we don't enroll enough students to cover group costs, the program gets cancelled.IRA sponsorship of CSUSB-led programs with GE courses is meant to help ensure that each program meets minimum enrollment to run. It also ensures that CSUSB students who cannot study abroad can still complete the same coursework offered through study abroad at home on the CSUSB campus.
In the 2025/2026 academic year, IRA funds directly supported 96 students studying abroad!

IRA Sponsorship Waitlist
If you do not secure an IRA-sponsored spot on your program and you are a matriculated CSUSB student during the term of your program's course enrollment, you will be added to the IRA-Sponsorship Waitlist once you pay your program fee in full (including the $800 IRA sponsorship supplement). If IRA funds are not exhausted by the end of February, students will be offered IRA-sponsored spots in the order in which they were added to the IRA Sponsorship Waitlist
